Second Sky - Under The Line EP Second Sky's first release on Rhythm and Culture Recordings comes in the form of an intimate Soul/Rn'B tinged downtempo groover called "Under the Line EP". Think Tosca after they'd listened to Marvin Gaye for a month straight. Warm Fender Rhodes, soft analog synths, and layers of reverb-soaked percussion effortlessly coast above an irresistible bass line and and head-bobbing beats. While reaching back to the '70s for inspiration, "Under the Line" pushes forward toward the future of downtempo music. The A side is topped off with the seductive vocals of Billy Medina, and on the B', the instrumental version provides a perfect soundtrack for very late night rendezvous.
Thomas Blondet - One Time EP Thomas Blondet is back with a vengeance. And this time, he's not alone. For "One Time" the renowned DJ/Producer has recruited not one but two DC Reggae heavyweights on vocals: Rootz Steele (See-I, Thievery Corporation) and Monsoon (S.T.O.R.M.). "One Time" gets right to the point, leaving nothing to be desired. Built on a foundation of a solid hip-hop beats and dubby bass lines, the grooving bhangra-style dholaks and classic synths provide a distinctly eastern yet modern flavor. With a "dub" version on the B', this is a serious gem in the Rhythm and Culture crown.
See-I - Mean Joe Green EP "Take a little trip and come fly with me" are the words sung by SEE-I in this dubbed out, downtempo scorcher. This ganja tune is a creeper and the vibes hit the mark perfectly. The track has a unique feel to it that does not fit easily into only one genre. Second Sky has reworked the track into a smooth remix which ups the ante a bit by adding sitar, more percussion and an overall 5:00 AM dubby vibe. The remix compliments the original well, and both tunes provide just the right mood at the right time.
Thomas Blondet - Havana 2am After 'No Dibby Dibby Sound' Thomas Blondet returns with 2 killer summer-tinged latin breaks. Similar to some recent Quantic stuff, this is drenched in sunshine yo! 'Ritmo Pas Gozar' uses some killer latin samples and pieces them together well, 'Havana 2am' is a bit more stripped back, letting the lead guitar do the work.
Thomas Blondet - No Dibby Dibby Sound The latest release from Rhythm and Culture Recordings comes from Thomas Blondet on 7” vinyl. No Dibby Dibby Sound” is a slab of Latin flavored reggae funk destined for the dancefloor. “Dub Steppa” on the flip side comes correct with deep dub vibes in a roots style.
Thomas Blondet - Echo Chamber Thomas Blondet follows up his European Coaster release with a diverse array of sounds on the Echo Chamber EP. There is truly something for everyone and every mood ranging from house to Brazilian beats, downtempo and even some smooth ragga. review
